October 1, 2023: “Demystifying & Deconstructing Projections” with Diane Byster, LMFT, NCC, RYT

REGISTER HERE

Have you ever wondered why you find yourself working harder than your client is towards their goals? Do you notice that your client seems to close off real contact with you, despite your best efforts? Has your client ever accused you of feeling or thinking something that is completely off of what you are actually thinking and feeling? Do you end up doubting yourself and your skills afterwards?

If this description resonates for you, your patient may be operating with a projection that they are completely unaware of. Once you recognize that a projection is between your client and you, what do you do about it?

This workshop is designed for current and past ISTDP core trainees and registered mental health professionals, to help you understand and recognize the many different kinds of projections that you may encounter in psychotherapy.

We will look at how projection operates across the spectrum, from the fragile patient to the highly resistant. We will also explore the implications of untreated projections, both for the patient and for the therapy. Finally, we will learn how to dismantle projections and how to recognize when the projection has resolved.

The workshop will include PowerPoint presentation, video demonstrations, skill building exercises and group discussion.

Additionally, there will be an opportunity for attendees to observe two of their colleagues receive live supervision from Diane by showing videotape of their own work with a patient. If you are interested in pursuing this supervision opportunity (at an add-on fee of $100), please reach out ASAP via email to Christi Alloway at treasurer.wcii@gmail.com, to make arrangements.
